Irlene Mandrell is scheduled to perform two shows on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at Richmond, Virginia's famous Old Dominion Barn Dance!
Irlene is so glad to be back to playing on stage after a tough year for the music industry and so many others. She says, “This last year has been a challenge in so many ways for me and I'm sure for most of us it was about the heartbreak of losing loved ones and for a lot of people it was that they lost their businesses.”
Mandrell adds with her signature positive attitude, “There was also good that came from it and that was that we spent a lot of time that we wouldn't normally have gotten with our families. I have a granddaughter that is four years old (Blakely) and I spent a lot of wonderful precious time with her. My youngest daughter Christina blessed me with her and now I'm excited because my oldest daughter Vanessa is going to bless me with a grandson in April. His name is Wyatt.”
But she hasn’t been able to see her full family, she says, “The part of my family that I have missed seeing, is all of you. I started performing when I was 11 years old playing drums with my sister on the road. Maybe because we were a family group, but everyone treated us like we were their family and after our TV show, ‘Barbara Mandrell and the Mandrell Sisters,’ they especially saw us as family because we went into their homes every Saturday night. I loved it because I felt the same way right back as if everyone was my extended family.”
The Old Dominion Barn dance show will be her first in 2021 and she can’t wait. Irlene says, “I am so excited to be back out where I can see everybody again! What a great way to start back out on the road, performing at the Old Dominion barn dance that I have heard about for so many years! The greatest thing when I hit the stage is the feeling of being home.”
It’s when she steps on the stage when she gets to travel back in time, she says, “I have so much love for my audience because I feel that we share a lot of the same memories.
I sing a lot of songs that are special to me in either lyric or tradition of country music. What is most important to me is God, country and family.”
She added, “My dates although they have been changing a lot this last year (2020) are listed on my website www.irlenemandrell.com. I hope you'll come to my shows because I would really love to see all of you!”
