Miranda Lambert, known as country music’s champion of shelter pets, used her superpowers to help more than 100 dogs and cats from Louisiana rescues that had been impacted by Hurricane Laura. MuttNation Foundation, Miranda’s nonprofit, teamed with Wings of Rescue, GreaterGood.org and Freekibble.com on Monday to transport the at-risk animals to their safe, new environments.
MuttNation Board Member, Maggie McGuane, who has flown with Wings of Rescue many times, was recruited for the flight. “I’ve flown with Wings of Rescue for years and being part of any rescue mission always gives me a tangible sense of purpose – being part of the MuttNation team gave this particular flight even greater significance.”
And Miranda, who was boots-on-the-ground after Hurricane Harvey, but unable to personally make the trip to Louisiana due to scheduling conflicts, added, “Each Wings of Rescue flight is a response to a catastrophic situation. Having MuttNation provide transport support for disaster relief efforts is an important part of our mission. I really appreciated everything Wings of Rescue did during Harvey, and everything that they do year-round. I look forward to flying with them in the future.”
Shelters from various disaster-impacted areas of Louisiana brought 115 dogs and cats to Hammond Northshore Airport’s Top Gun FBO. Once there, the pets were boarded on the Wings of Rescue flight and relocated to the San Diego Humane and Rancho Coastal Humane (in San Diego), where they now have outstanding opportunities to find their new forever homes.
