Singer-songwriter and upright bass player Scott Mulvahill kicked off part two of his Himalayas Tour on Friday, March 22nd with his debut performance on the Grand Ole Opry stage in Nashville. Mulvahill sang two songs off of his most recent album, Himalayas - “Gold Plated Lie†and the title track, “Himalayas†– and his unique and stunning performance prompted the audience to give him a standing ovation.  The Nashville-based Mulvahill was honored to have Opry member Ricky Skaggs introduce him before his set, with Skaggs dubbing him “like a son.â€Â Mulvahill toured with Skaggs for over five years as part of his Grammy Award-winning band, Kentucky Thunder, before branching out on his own and releasing his debut album, Himalayas, late last year.
“That night could hardly have been more perfect,†says Mulvahill. “To make a debut on a legendary stage where I’d played many times as a sideman, surrounded by good friends and my mentor Ricky, with a receptive, warm crowd, was more than I could ask for.  It was a very moving experience for me, and I’ll never forget it.â€
“He has been on this stage so many times with me, and a bunch of other stages,†said Skaggs in his on-stage introduction of Mulvahill. “It’s like introducing my son. I love him like a son. I’m just so proud of him. When I first hired him, I knew that he had a lot of talent, but I had no idea that he would continue to keep growing and growing, writing songs and playing bass completely crazy, just nuts. His new album is Himalayas. Go get that record. That is a great, great record.â€
Mulvahill's tour continues this week on the West Coast for a few California shows, then the tour will criss-cross the country, allowing fans in many markets to have the opportunity to see his unique and special live show. He is also already confirmed for multiple high-profile shows and festivals including Mountain Stage, WoodSongs, Rhythm and Blooms, Blue Plums, Winnetka Music Festival, and more to come. (See below for complete list of confirmed dates; more will be added and announced soon.)
Mulvahill kicked off 2019 with part one of his Himalayas headliner tour in January (with six of the shows selling out), and he just wrapped a second leg of dates opening for recent multi-Grammy winner Lauren Daigle on her sold-out “Look Up Child†tour. While on tour, Mulvahill stopped by NPR’s Tiny Desk Concerts “studio†in January where he recorded a performance that premiered last month (https://www.npr.org/2019/02/14/694700614/scott-mulvahill-tiny-desk-concert). His latest single from Himalayas, “Gold Plated Lie,†went to radio in February.Â
